- Martha Forsberg
New Ulm \emdash Martha Forsberg, 90, of New Ulm, died Thursday, June 21, 2007, at the Oak Hills Living Center in New Ulm. The funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Tuesday, June 26 at the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm with Rev. Kevin Dunn officiating. Burial will follow in the New Ulm City Cemetery. Visitation will be 4:00 - 8:00 p.m. Monday at Schmucker Funeral Service in New Ulm and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Martha Marie Deters, the daughter of William and Anna (Bunge) Deters, was born October 31, 1916 in Wilmington Township, Houston County, MN. After graduating from Caledonia High School in 1932, she attended Park College and Michigan State University where she received her degree in Related Arts. Marty then received her teaching certificate from the University of Minnesota. Marty was united in marriage to Winfield Forsberg on November 18, 1945, in Eitzen, MN. The couple lived briefly in Champaign, IL, Red Wing and Fairmont before moving to New Ulm in 1947. Marty was a high school Home Economics teacher in Winthrop and then worked as the county home agent in Martin County. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in New Ulm where she was active in the choir and United Methodist Women. Marty served on the boards of the Emma Norton House and Decision Hills. She was a member of P.E.O. and the Brown County Historical Society. Marty enjoyed traveling and painting. She moved to the Oak Hills Living Center August 16, 2004.
Survivors include her sons, Charles Forsberg and his wife Virginia of Oak Ridge, TN, Eric Forsberg and his partner Gloria Peck of Golden Valley, Jack Forsberg and his wife Genelle of Mendota Heights; former daughter-in-law, Robin Forsberg of Minnetonka; grandchildren, Amanda Forsberg of St. Louis Park, Christopher Forsberg of Seattle, WA, Martin Forsberg of Seattle, WA, Carl Forsberg of Mendota Heights, Anna Forsberg of Mendota Heights; sisters-in-law, Ilene Forsberg of Missouri, Murial Forsberg of California, Elaine Forsberg of Winthrop; several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her husband and parents, Marty was preceded in death by her brothers, Martin Deters and his wife Ruth, John Deters and his wife Florence; sister, Ruth Nussmann and her husband Ernst; brothers-in-law, Archie Forsberg, Harold Forsberg, and Glendan Forsberg.
Memorials are preferred to Decision Hills Camp-Retreat Center in Spicer, the Brown County Historical Society, or the Oak Hills Memorial Foundation.
